HAMMER DOWN BOATING INTERVIEWS SARIS OFFSHORE RACING ABOUT DRIVEGUARDIAN'S IMPACT ON THEIR SEASON

November 15, 2014

HDB caught up with Johnny Saris, Driver for the Saris Racing Engines Offshore Race Team, to follow up on how their MDC Drive Guardian performed for them this season. Here's the latest: The Drive Guardian: "As a lot of you may know, we tried a new product on the race boat this season called a Drive Guardian. Made by Marine Design Corp, the Drive Guardian takes place of a regular rubber drive coupler and replaces it with a clutch-like mechanism. The idea is to erase any torque spikes that are sent to the drives. These torque spikes can be caused getting on plane, rough water, etc." Did they work: "Yes! Yes they did. We compared our pinion gears from the 2013 race season to those of the 2014 race season and the results are fantastic. There is still some wear, which was expected. But there was absolutely no pitting or chipping, which is what we found a lot of last year. " Jason's thoughts: "At the end of 2013, when I pulled our drives apart, I couldn't believe my eyes. We were running on borrowed time, and only ran a handful of races that year. I really didn't think my drives could last a full season. Fast forward to 2014, we ran more races, won another championship and the gears look great. I have confidence in my drives again." The application: "Our boat is a 32 Cobra- 650hp Saris Racing Engines- XR Drives with IMCO -2 lowers. 4 Blade BBlades Propellers and I can assure you, we don't run easy. Pushing 8500lbs through the water isn't an easy task, and the Drive Guardians have made our bravos withstand the abuse." Closing thoughts: "We recommend this product to anyone suffering the bravo blues. Particularly in rough water environments, or anyone who likes to run hard." Stay tuned...Johnny will be providing comparison pictures of the gears, from 2013 and 2014. Thanks for the update!!! — with Jason Saris and Johnny Saris.

SMITH BROTHERS ANNOUNCES CONTINUING TECHNICAL ALLIANCE WITH MDC

November 15, 2014

Smith Brothers Offshore Racing Team announced today that they will continue with their association with Marine Design Corporation, makers of the patented DriveGuardian System in the 2015 racing season. In 2014, the team’s boat was equipped with the system in place of the stock coupler. “We couldn’t be happier with the performance of the DriveGuardian,” said driver Pete Smith “the system has given us the confidence to run as hard as we can without worrying about drive failures.”

“We are thrilled to be working with Mike Clesceri the designer of the DriveGuardian again in 2015,” said team throttleman Rich Smith. “Mike’s invention is designed to eliminate the immense stress put on the drive when running a boat in the rough conditions we race in.” The team will be utilizing a DriveGuardian calibrated for their engine package in the entire Offshore Powerboat Association season.

Designed and manufactured in Cary, Illinois, the DriveGuardian is the brainchild of Mike Clesceri. An avid high performance boater, Mike saw the need for a revolutionary change in how to join today’s high horsepower engines to the drive system. The DriveGuardian is the result.

While the first race of the 2015 season is months away, MDC and Smith Brothers are hard at work preparing for the return to competition.

MARINE DESIGN CORPORATION ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH CK MOTORSPORTS

April 12, 2014

Mike Clesceri, President of Marine Design Corporation has announced a partnership with Keith Holmes, owner of CK Motorsports in Nunica, MI.  CK Motorsports is now an authorized distributor for MDC.  MDC designs and builds products that improve the reliability and safety of operating an offshore performance boat.  DriveSync is a patent pending device that monitors the drive trim position for twin and triple engine boats.  Each time the operator presses the BOTH/ALL button, it will automatically adjust the drives to be in perfect alignment, every time.  This allows the operator to focus on driving instead of monitoring and adjusting the drive trim to maintain a safe and level hull attitude.  DriveGuardian is a torque-limiting coupler that reduces the stress and damage on a stern-drive when the propeller re-enters the water after hitting a wave and reduces costly repairs.

"We are very excited to add Keith Holmes and CK Motorsports to the MDC Family," said Mike Clesceri.  "CK Motorsports is a full-service shop that does outstanding work and Keith has a phenomenal reputation, both on and off the race course.  We are looking forward to a great partnership."

SARIS OFFSHORE RACING TO PARTNER WIH MDC DRIVEGUARDIAN FOR 2014 SEASON

April 4, 2014

Saris Racing Engines Offshore Race Team will be using the DriveGuardian by MDC product for their upcoming 2014 race season. "Our motors are right in that "Bravo Killer" area," said Jason Saris, Engine builder and Throttleman. "Right now, every other race we freshen our drives, and find small issues with them. We feel by using the DriveGuardian by MDC, not only will we be able to spread our-freshen up time out by a considerable amount, but we will have more confidence on what we have on the course. There is no worse feeling than hoping your drives will last the race, especially when you're in the lead." The Saris Racing Team is coming off a successful 2013 season with their new boat. With 3 firsts and a second out of the 4 races they entered, they are feeling good about the 2014 season. "MDC is proud to be a sponsor and partner for the Saris Racing Engines Offshore Race Team," said Mike Clesceri, President of Marine Design Corporation. "We are confident that DriveGuardian will improve the reliability of their drives and wish them a successful 2014 season." "We're planning to run more races this year," said Johnny Saris, the driver. "Last year we were really learning the new boat, now that we have her figured out, I think we will have one of the boats to beat in Class 4. We have some awesome competition, being able to run as hard as we need to without sweating over the drives will be an added bonus." Team Saris' boat is a 32 Cobra, rigged by Team Saris Performance Marine, and powered by twin full-staggered 650HP Saris Racing Engines, with Bravo XR drives. DriveGuardian is proud to join the fine list of companies that sponsor Team Saris- Performance Marine, Lookers Embroidery, BBlades Propellers, and Performance Custom Trailer.

SMITH BROTHERS OFFSHORE RACING ANNOUNCE TECHNICAL ALLIANCE

April 3, 2014

Smith Brothers Offshore Racing Team announced today that they have formed a technical alliance with Marine Design Corporation of Cary, Illinois.   MDC is the designer and manufacturer of the DriveGuardian.  DriveGuardian is a patented device designed to absorb and dissipate the shock-induced loading of the gear sets and shafts in a marine drive system and eliminate the damage from overloading. DriveGuardian’s design controls the maximum torque seen by the drive with zero impact or adverse effects under normal operation. Importantly, as designed, DriveGuardian’s operation is 100% mechanical, operates automatically, is completely transparent to the boat operator, and requires no additional maintenance.

“We are thrilled to be working with Mike Clesceri the designer of the DriveGuardian,” said team throttleman Rich Smith.  “We rebuilt our drive after last season and found a twisted vertical shaft and chipped gears, all signs of overstressing the drive.  Mike’s invention is designed to eliminate the immense stress put on the drive when running a boat in the rough conditions we race in.”

The team will be installing a DriveGuardian calibrated for their engine package immediately and will run the unit the entire Offshore Powerboat Association season. For more information on Smith Brothers Offshore Racing Team see www.smithbrothersoffshoreracing.com
