Ever since Marine Design Corporation released their first product to the boating market, they have exploded in popularity. MDC’s exponential growth is undoubtedly because of their industry changing products, particularly the DriveGuardian and the DriveSync, which continue to be backed by success story after success story by pleasure boaters and high performance race teams alike.
A testament to the durability and effectiveness of the DriveGuardian, both Saris Racing and Smith Brothers Racing were using it during the well known OPA races in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. Known for its usually rough water conditions it was the perfect arena for seeing how effective the DriveGuardian would be for each team. Saris Racing, who has used the DriveGuardian before in previous races, took home first place in class 4, and Smith Brothers Racing took home second place in class 6. Rich Smith who used the race as an opportunity to use the Drive Guardian for the third time says that he is very happy that he had the DriveGuardian for that race.
But MDC has taken another step towards achieving peak performance in the form of the DriveSync. There’s nothing more annoying and potentially dangerous than having your drives and trim go out of alignment and constantly having to re-adjust them. But as we all know hitting the BOTH button is rarely a successful means of evenly adjusting your drives. That’s why MDC developed the DriveSync, a system that monitors and automatically adjusts your drives so that they stay in perfectly even every time. A perfectionist at heart, Doug’s pet peeve had always been with the lack of synchronicity between drives. Whereas like the majority of boaters today, before he installed the DriveSync, he could never be completely certain if the drives were perfect or not, and the always changing levels created by line slack made establishing a base line nearly impossible.
After the installation, which according to Doug only took a couple hours per boat involving some simple wire connections followed by the actual syncing of the drives, the difference was immediately noticeable.

Sam Tippens who has also been running the DriveSync in his 36 Skater for the better part of the summer is more than pleased with the performance and ingenuity of the design.
“It’s perfect. It makes driving the boat so much easier than before becuase I was always having to chase the slowest drive and bump it up to match the high one, especially in that boat. Messing with the drives was just a distraction. Now I don’t have to think about the drives and can concentrate on everything else.” – Sam

MDC Helps Race Teams Dominate OPA and SBI Championships

Mike Clesceri and the innovative team at Marine Design Corporation continue to see success with their industry changing DriveGuardian and DriveSync as more and more race teams choose to implement the latest versions.
You can’t ignore the facts, and the fact is that the teams running the DriveGuardian are consistently seeing greater success evidenced by several national and world championships taken home this year.
Lily Sport Boats ran the latest DriveGuardian all season and ended up taking home not just the SBI National title but also the World Championship title for the Superboat Vee class.
Both Smith Brothers Racing and Saris racing have been running DriveGuardians for the last three seasons with great success and this year was no different. Saris Racing took home the trophy for both the OPA National and World Championships for class 4, and Smith Brothers Racing won yet another OPA World Championship for class 6. Rich Smith says that he wouldn’t race without the DriveGuardian and here’s why.
“In our situation, the DriveGuardian is not just for big water where the boat is leaping swells and leaving the water frequently. Because of the various types of water we race on (lakes, ocean, rivers), we actually depend on it more in smaller, choppy water. The DriveGuardian gives me confidence in that small, choppy water where I can’t throttle back each time the propeller unloads because it happens so fast. In those conditions, I don’t even bother to lift. Running like that with a stock coupler will ultimately damage something, because the stock coupler isn’t designed for repeated, intentional abuse. The DriveGuardian is.”
Close behind the Saris Racing team was Perdition running the DriveGuardian as well. They finished in 2nd place for the OPA World Championships giving MDC supported boats a 1,2 finish.
The results are undeniable. Teams racing with the DriveGuardian were wildly successful in this years season, further providing evidence that Mike’s ingenious “slipping clutch” design is battle tested and delivers positive results in any environment.
