100mm Submersible Linear Position Sender

About Linear Sender

Precision Position Feedback. Fully Submersible. No Mechanical Cables.

Marine Design Corporation's 100mm Submersible Linear Position Sender provides precise electronic position feedback in an extremely rugged, compact package designed specifically for harsh marine environments.

Originally developed for trim tabs and tunnel tabs, the sender eliminates the need for conventional mechanical position-indicator cables and can be adapted to a wide variety of applications requiring accurate linear position feedback.

With a carbon fiber housing, carbon fiber ram, and fully epoxy-encapsulated electronics, the sender is designed for indefinite submersion and continuous operation in demanding marine environments.

Designed to Live Underwater

This isn't simply a waterproof or weather-resistant position sensor.

The MDC Linear Position Sender is designed to remain submerged indefinitely. The internal electronics are completely encapsulated in epoxy inside the carbon fiber housing, providing a robust barrier against water intrusion.

That makes it ideally suited for trim tabs, tunnel tabs, and other applications where mounting the position sensor below the waterline provides the simplest and most direct installation.

100mm of Precise Linear Measurement

With a 100mm measurement stroke, the sender provides highly accurate position feedback for trim tabs, tunnel tabs, actuators, and other mechanisms.

With an RMS error of just 0.125mm and resolution of 0.106mm, even very small changes in position can be accurately detected.

For trim and tunnel tab applications, the sender can be mounted directly at the mechanism and electronically transmit position back to the vessel's control or display system.

Programmable Output Direction

Not every installation operates in the same direction.

The sender can be programmed so its 0.5–4.5V output either increases or decreases as the ram extends.

This is particularly valuable for trim tab and tunnel tab applications, where mechanical orientation may cause extension to represent either increasing or decreasing tab position.

Instead of designing the installation around the sensor, the sensor can be configured for the installation.

Eliminate the Cable

Mechanical position-indicator cables add complexity to an installation. They require routing through the vessel and introduce another mechanical component that can corrode, bind, wear, or require adjustment.

The MDC Submersible Linear Position Sender replaces that mechanical connection with precise electronic position measurement directly at the tab.

Mount the sender at the mechanism, connect three wires, and get accurate position feedback without running a mechanical indicator cable through the boat.

Submersible. Precise. Corrosion resistant. No mechanical cable.
